Julie Brough
Family Systemic Therapist
Julie has over 30 years’ experience working in the NHS with children and families using a systemic model.
Originally trained as a social worker, Julie has gone on to complete her systemic psychotherapy (family therapy) training and has led the development of CAMHS services across Devon and Somerset. She is a supervisor on the University of Exeter CYP-IAPT (Children and Young People - Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) systemic family practice programme, and a clinical supervisor for the Exeter University MSc Systemic Therapy programme.
Systemic family therapy supports families for example; to find alternative ways of managing and understanding their difficulties by improving communication, finding solutions to specific behavioural issues and finding ways together to repair relationships.
Sessions aim to be collaborative and we work together to find achievable goals. This therapeutic model strives to be inclusive to all and works on the family's strengths and builds on these to make the changes the family wishes to see. Julie can work with parents and children and young people separately or/and together but will always keep the family in mind.
Julie is registered with the HCPC, UKCP and AFT (Association of Family and Marital Therapy).
