Dr Kaykay Chung
DClinPsych
Clinical Psychologist
Kaykay is a Clinical Psychologist and CBT Therapist who is passionate about working with children, teenagers, and families. She believes, as American anthropologist Clyde Kluckhohn once said (in more gender-neutral terms), that every human is, in some ways, like all other humans, like some other humans, and like no other human. Her goal is to celebrate what makes each person unique while providing support that is comfortable, respectful, and tailored to their needs.
During her clinical psychology training in Malaysia, Kaykay worked with children and families in both private and non-profit settings where she provided therapy and neurodevelopmental assessments to children and young people. After qualifying in 2018, she continued working with children and families while also volunteering with non-profits. In 2020, while preparing to become registered as a Clinical Psychologist in the UK, Kaykay retrained as a CBT therapist. She worked in NHS Talking Therapies, supporting clients with depression, anxiety, and trauma. What she loved most about this work was adapting CBT—and therapy in general—to meet the needs of neurodivergent individuals, ensuring that therapy fit their goals and preferences rather than the other way around.
In her work with ADHD and autistic individuals, she is passionate about supporting people pre, post and during diagnosis, working on areas such as shame and self-acceptance, understanding and making meaning of one's diagnosis, journeying through post-diagnostic grief, dismantling internalized ableism, overcoming and preventing neurodivergent burnout, understanding one's needs through a neurodivergent lens and developing self-advocacy skills. She is also trained in using assessment tools such as the ADOS-2, ADI-R, and MIGDAS-2 to assess for autism.
At the heart of Kaykay’s work is the belief that all ways of being, communicating, and experiencing the world are valid. She believes that differences in communication, social interaction, cognition, and sensory processing deserve to be celebrated and supported. She strives to create a safe, welcoming and collaborative space where children and young people feel valued and where families feel empowered to support their children in meaningful and fulfilling ways.
My special interests include neurodevelopmental conditions, neurodiversity paradigm, trauma (incl. complex/relational trauma, (intergenerational trauma), disability rights, neuro-affirming and culturally sensitive practice.
Kaykay hold a Masters of Clinical Psychology from the University of Malaysia; a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies (CBT) from the University of Sussex; and is registered with the The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
